Lost money to an online fraud? Call 1930 first, and fast

Quick answer

Call the national cyber-fraud helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in as soon as you notice the fraud. The report goes to banks and wallets through the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, which can put a hold on money still in the fraudster’s accounts. As of December 2025 the government reported over ₹7,000 crore saved from more than 23 lakh complaints.

Why the first hours matter

Fraudsters move money through several accounts quickly. A fast report lets banks mark and hold the amount while it is still in the system. The later you report, the less there is to stop.

Keep the evidence

Save screenshots of chats, call logs, UPI or bank transaction IDs, the fraudster’s number, links and emails. Don’t delete the conversation, even if it is embarrassing.

Getting held money back

Money that has been put on hold is released to you through the bank, usually after a police or court order. An advocate can help with the application if it gets stuck.
